I've changed jobs recently and now my journey to work takes me past the grand total of 3 sets of traffic lights (two of which are not great). What is amazing is that now I travel twice as far as I did before and it takes me 35 minutes instead of 25. Another 10 miles for only 10 minutes extra journey time.
Bearing in mind I travel about the same distance on the motorway as before, my average speed is much higher on normal roads.
I still think most people naturally assume that more traffic lights is better for traffic management and really don't see the massive impact they have on journey times.
